We are living in an age of information overload and we are always distracted. We are often overwhelmed with so much information that we can access mostly free on the internet and also from many other external sources and therefore we remain undecided on most of the major issues for a long time.
Therefore we will have to consciously cut down on our various sources of information as also ignore a lot of free content available particularly on social media and should try to stick to only a very few but authentic sources. This is the only way we can organize our time to be able to focus only on those areas that matter most to us.
Self-discipline is the way
This is the next major step to change our old habits. We should have specific time slots for looking at our e-mails, catching up with our friends and colleagues etc. in a manner that such activities do not disturb our primary activities that we think are most important to us and thus would yield maximum benefit to us.
Let us make a promise to ourselves that during the first one hour, after we get up from bed, we will not look at our mobile or consult our diary etc. till such time we have finished our morning routine of breathing exercise, meditation, stretching exercise, morning walk etc.
Let us not forget that we have only one body to live in and only one lifetime to live and each one of us will ultimately die someday. Therefore, the time that has just gone by, will never return.
Unless we learn to value the fixed amount of time that each one of us is getting in our lifetime, we will be constantly losing opportunities to become extraordinary in our life, unless we properly utilize the limited time in which we have to finish and enjoy whatever that we aspire for during our lifetime.
Our fixed quota of time
An ordinary person may leave behind many unfinished jobs before he dies and an extraordinary person will finish at least some of the major works that s/he wanted to finish and enjoy, before death. Life is all about our individual experiences and the impact that we create on others’ lives or even on the world, before we die.
Other than living our life well, just think of the legacy we would like to leave behind, when we die.
How can we seek wisdom that we can absorb and apply to our life? It is difficult for us to judge which advice to follow seriously in our life unless we are sure of the authenticity of the source of information or the advice.
Copy them!
I think the easiest way to do so is to identify some extraordinarily successful persons whom we can idolize and imitate to become somewhat like them. For this, we should read all the available material written about them or watch the interviews given by them or the best thing to do is to meet them in person or send them messages and ask questions and learn from them, if that is possible.
This is certainly a short-cut way to save our time and at the same time immensely benefit from someone who has actually gone through the process of ups and downs in his or her life and has reached the pinnacle in a certain area where we want to succeed.
It is no wonder when we find that most of them, whom we idolize, had started their life from a position of extreme disadvantage, either socially or financially or at times, physically, and still had the courage of conviction to beat all the odds and come out a winner.
It is so interesting that all of them, at certain point in their life, had been an ordinary person like most of us but still could gather enough determination, motivation and do some hard work to change their life situation by following their passion and become master in their own field that few others could beat them, at their game.
Like it or not, almost all of them had followed the same eternal principles that I am writing about in this book.
Even those who had inherited great wealth or name and fame from their ancestors and ultimately became great success in their business or profession, wouldn’t have been so, without their own strength of character and creativity.
Ultimately what all it boils down to is how we think, how we perceive, how we get self-motivated, how we grab the opportunities, and how we keep working at our passion till we become extraordinary and fulfill our dreams!
